In 2009, Alzheimer’s Disease International published The World Alzheimer Report: The Global Prevalence of Dementia. This report presents the most comprehensive global prevalence study of dementia to date and looks at levels of mortality, disability, strain on carers and dependency. The report also offers examples of good national dementia plans and information on health service responses. Importantly, the report also includes eight recommendations that will provide a global framework for action on dementia.
Estimated Prevalence of Dementia in 2010
The following table is reproduced from the World Alzheimer’s Report. It shows the total population over 60, estimated prevalence of dementia (2010), estimated number of people with dementia (2010, 2030 and 2050) and proportionate increases (2010-2030 and 2010-2050) by world region.
